RAMPxchange Ecosystem | MediaFuel

What a fantastic way to kickstart the year! I am excited to share a project that holds a special place in my creative journey— not only is this my first full illustration and animation project as a Freelancer, essentially wearing all the hats; Art Director, Illustrator, Animator, Producer. But this project also beautifully harnesses the simplicity and complexity of line work in storytelling.

Drawing inspiration from a previous project, UBS lines, this video project allowed for a departure from the adherence to a single line theme. Providing an opportunity for fluid camera movements and a more dynamic narrative approach. It builds on the past while standing on it's own.

I am proud of the outcome, both in terms of the resulting work and the entire creative process. It embodies the high standard of a truly productive and uplifting collaboration among individuals. Working with MediaFuel and RAMPxchange has been a pleasure—they consistently demonstrate kindness and respect towards everyone involved. Their valuable feedback was always appreciated and ultimately contributed to making this project better at every phase.

Process

Micki contacted me after seeing my UBS work, MediaFuel wanted a similar treatment for RAMPxchange. They already had a script, VO record and initial concept sketch. I was given the freedom to rework the art boards to optimize for concepts that could be delivered successfully under a tight deadline and within budget. For example, we stayed away from elements that would take a lot of time to animate, like full character walk cycles, in favor of tighter framing. We still wanted to tell the story of a journey but we used the camera in more dynamic and immersive ways.

We set up a 5 week review and feedback structure, stepping through; rough sketches, final illustrations, an animatic, WIP animation and final animation. I really appreciated their timely feedback and critical eye at each step of the process. As an animator I know the animatic can be particularly tough for clients to interpret. It’s like a peek behind the curtain that can be worrying. But it’s also a chance to hear those concerns from our client, a chance to agree to the areas that will change and improve.

We were even able to squeeze in one more round of last looks feedback before final delivery. I am proud of this project as a collaboration. A chance for me to be creative and for the client to be happy with the work they commissioned.
